Internet Usage Policy

Access

Internet access is available on public terminals for all users of the Little Falls Public Library.  Access to the Internet is compatible with the Library’s endorsement of the Library Bill of Rights, the Freedom to Read, and the Freedom to View documents and with its collection development policy and mission statement.

Internet access is primarily for research and information sources only. Users agree not to use the facilities and capabilities of this service to conduct any business or to solicit any activity which is in violation of the law or Little Falls Public Library policy.

Content

The Internet allows users to connect to networks of resources outside the library.  The Little Falls Public Library has no control over these resources nor does the Library have complete knowledge of what is on the Internet.  The Little Falls Public Library cannot be held responsible for the content or quality of the information retrieved.  Information on the Internet may be reliable and current, or it may be inaccurate, out-of-date, or unavailable at times.  Some content may be offensive.  Library users access the Internet at their own discretion.

Minors (Patrons under the age of 18)

Parents/Guardians of minors must assume responsibility for their children’s use of the Internet through the Library’s connection.  It should be understood that the Little Falls Public Library cannot act as a censor or as a substitute parent.  As is the case with all other library materials, any restriction of a minor’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the child’s parent or legal guardian.

Privacy

The Library cannot guarantee privacy for those using computers in the library.  The Library treats all patron-related information as confidential, including online activity.  In the event of a request for disclosure of information made by local, state, or federal law, the Library will comply.

Please be aware that your online activity can be viewed by library staff if there is suspicion that you are not abiding by Library policy or are engaging in restricted/illegal activities.

Restrictions/Illegal Activities

Library staff has the authority to implement reasonable practices and procedures governing the use of the Internet.  Library patrons are expected to comply with all local, state, and federal laws while using the Internet.  Failure to adhere to these restrictions may result in the suspension of computer and/or library use privileges and could also subject the user to prosecution under local, state, or federal law.  Examples of illegal and/or restricted activities include, but are not limited to:
